Abstract
A convertible booster seat for use positioned on a convention chair or for use as a free-standing chair that features a pair of folding legs rotatably connected to a booster seat base and configurable in generally opposing folded and deployed positions. Moving the legs between the folded and deployed simultaneously shifts the legs longitudinally in relation to the seat base to improve stability when the booster seat is being used as a free-standing chair and to enable the legs to be stowed completely beneath the seat base when folded.
Claims13
A child booster seat convertible to a floor chair, comprising:
- a seat body;
- and
- a leg assembly including a leg and a coupling that supports the leg for rotation about a pivot axis relative to the seat body;
- wherein, responsive to rotation of the leg between a stowed position and an elevated position that raises the seat body above a seating surface, the coupling positively drives the leg to translate along the pivot axis while the leg rotates.
A leg-coupling subassembly for a child seat, comprising:
- a pivot member defining a pivot axis;
- a leg hub configured for rotation about the pivot axis;
- and
- a translation driver coupling the leg hub to the pivot member and configured to impose axial displacement of the leg hub along the pivot axis in response to rotation of the leg hub.
A method of converting a child booster seat between modes, comprising:
- pivoting a leg of the seat about a pivot axis;
- and
- concurrently translating the leg along the pivot axis via a coupling responsive to said pivoting, thereby elevating a seat body.
