Reproduction device, reproduction method, and recording medium

A display device, comprising circuitry configured to:

• store brightness-capability information and control parameters of the display device;
• communicate with a reproduction device;
• transmit the brightness-capability information and first high-dynamic-range (HDR) information including a first flag indicating a brightness-adjustment capability of the display device;
• receive, from the reproduction device, second HDR information associated with video data and including a second flag indicating whether the reproduction device has performed brightness adjustment of the video data;
• and
• transmit a control command to the reproduction device, based on a comparison of the first flag and a subsequently received second flag, the control command requesting the reproduction device to change a brightness-processing mode for subsequent video data;
• and
• display an image based on the video data received from the reproduction device in accordance with the brightness-processing mode established by the control command.

A method performed by a display device, comprising:

• storing brightness-capability information and control parameters of the display device;
• communicating with a reproduction device;
• transmitting the brightness-capability information including first high-dynamic-range (HDR) information including a first flag indicating a brightness-adjustment capability of the display device;
• receiving, from the reproduction device, second HDR information associated with video data and including a second flag indicating whether brightness adjustment is performed on the video data;
• transmitting a control command to the reproduction device, in accordance with the brightness-capability information of the display device, the control command requesting the reproduction device to select a brightness-processing mode for the video data;
• and
• displaying an image based on the video data received from the reproduction device in accordance with the brightness-processing mode established by the control command.
