Abstract

A communication method and apparatus are provided, to configure, for each terminal device, a measurement configuration parameter adapted to a status of the terminal device, thereby improving efficiency of cell measurement performed by the terminal device and reducing measurement power consumption of the terminal device. In this application, the method includes: An access network device receives assistance information from a terminal device, and, based on the assistance information, it determines measurement configuration information, which includes at least one measurement configuration parameter and an activation condition for the at least one measurement configuration parameter, and which is used by the terminal device to perform cell measurement. The access network device then sends the measurement configuration information to the terminal device, and the terminal device performs cell measurement based on the measurement configuration information.

Dependent claims

An apparatus, comprising a processor and an interface circuit, wherein the interface circuit is configured to:

receive a signal from a communication apparatus other than the apparatus and transmit the signal to the processor, or send a signal from the processor to a communication apparatus other than the apparatus, and the processor is configured to implement the following method, comprising
receiving assistance information;
determining measurement configuration information based on the assistance information, wherein the measurement configuration information comprises at least one measurement configuration parameter and an activation condition for the at least one measurement configuration parameter, and the measurement configuration information is used by a terminal device to perform measurement;
and
sending the measurement configuration information.
