Data Stream Enabled Return Mail Services

A system comprising one or more computing devices, the system comprising:

• a rule management component implemented by the one or more computing devices, the rule management component including one or more processors and one or more memories storing instructions that, when executed, cause:
• establishing, for a sender of items of mail, a set of rules associated with the sender based on user instruction;
• and
• storing the set of rules in association with the sender;
• and
• a mail processing component implemented by the one or more computing devices, the mail processing component including one or more processors and one or more memories storing instructions that, when executed, cause:
• determining, based on data extracted from a digital image of a particular item of mail, sender information of the particular item of mail;
• selecting, based on the sender information, the set of rules associated with the sender;
• identifying a particular category defined by the selected set of rules for the particular item of mail;
• identifying one or more actions to be taken for the particular item of mail based on the identified particular category and the selected set of rules;
• and
• sending instructions to one or more devices to cause performance of the one or more actions;
• wherein the rule management component and the mail processing component are implemented on the same computing device or on different computing devices of the one or more computing devices.

One or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing instructions which, when executed by one or more processors, cause performance of:

• establishing, for a sender of items of mail, a set of rules associated with the sender based on user instruction;
• storing the set of rules in association with the sender;
• and
• processing a particular item of mail by:
• determining, based on data extracted from a digital image of the particular item of mail, sender information of the particular item of mail;
• selecting, based on the sender information, the set of rules associated with the sender;
• identifying a particular category defined by the selected set of rules for the particular item of mail;
• identifying one or more actions to be taken for the particular item of mail based on the identified particular category and the selected set of rules;
• and
• sending instructions to one or more devices to cause performance of the one or more actions.
