Abstract
A system uses one or more non-fungible tokens (NFTs) for authentication. An NFT and an associated smart contract may be generated and stored on a blockchain for authority that is to be delegated to a delegate on behalf of a delegator. The NFT may then be provided to the delegate, who may use the NFT to authenticate himself in order to act on the delegated authority. Subsequently, the NFT may be transferred, revoked, marked expired, and/or otherwise controlled by the delegator in order to control the authority delegated to the delegate.
Claims21
A method for delegating authority using a non-fungible token (NFT), the method comprising:
- receiving, using at least one processor, a delegation request from a delegating party specifying a scope of the authority to be delegated to a delegate;
- generating, using the at least one processor, the non-fungible token and an associated smart contract, the associated smart contract encoding the scope of authority;
- storing the NFT and the associated smart contract on at least one blockchain;
- transferring the NFT to at least one token wallet associated with the delegate;
- receiving, using the at least one processor, a transaction request from the delegate;
- verifying, using the at least one processor, that the at least one token wallet associated with the delegate is associated with the NFT;
- verifying, using the at least one processor via the associated smart contract, that the transaction request is within the scope of authority encoded in the associated smart contract;
- authorizing the transaction request responsive to verifying that the at least one token wallet associated with the delegate is associated with the NFT and the transaction request is within the scope of authority encoded in the associated smart contract;
- and
- denying the transaction request responsive to determining that the at least one token wallet associated with the delegate is not associated with the NFT or that the transaction request is not within the scope of authority encoded in the associated smart contract.
A method for revoking delegated authority, the method comprising:
- providing, using at least one processor, a non-fungible token (NFT) encoding a scope of the delegated authority to at least one token wallet of a delegate, the NFT being stored on at least one blockchain;
- receiving, using the at least one processor, a revocation instruction from a delegating party;
- executing, using the at least one processor, a revocation operation on the at least one blockchain that renders the NFT associated with the at least one token wallet of the delegate unusable, the revocation operation executing without requiring consent or cooperation of the delegate;
- and
- failing verification of a transaction request submitted by the delegate subsequent to the revocation operation due to the NFT no longer being valid.
A method for managing delegated authority through token wallet operations, the method comprising:
- generating a non-fungible token (NFT) and an associated smart contract on at least one blockchain, the associated smart contract encoding a scope of the delegated authority;
- associating the NFT with a first token wallet of a first delegate by transferring the NFT to the first token wallet;
- receiving a delegation transfer request specifying a second delegate;
- and
- transferring the NFT from the first token wallet to a second token wallet associated with the second delegate so that the first token wallet is no longer associated with the NFT and the first delegate can no longer exercise the delegated authority.
A method for hierarchical delegation of authority using non-fungible tokens(NFT), the method comprising:
- providing a first non-fungible token to a first delegate, the first NFT being associated with a first smart contract encoding a scope of delegated authority and stored on at least one blockchain, the first smart contract authorizing creation of one or more child NFTs;
- receiving, from the first delegate, a request to create a child NFT;
- generating the child NFT associated with a child smart contract, the child smart contract encoding a subset of the scope of delegated authority encoded in the first smart contract;
- and
- providing the child NFT to a second delegate, the child NFT being usable by the second delegate to exercise the subset of the scope of delegated authority, the first delegate retaining the first NFT and the scope of delegated authority.
A system for delegating authority, the system comprising:
- at least one blockchain;
- a verification module configured to query the at least one blockchain to determine whether a delegate is associated with at least one non-fungible token (NFT) encoding the authority for a requested transaction via an associated smart contract;
- and
- an authorization engine configured to authorize the requested transaction responsive to the verification module confirming that the delegate holds the at least one NFT on the at least one blockchain.
A method for managing credentials using non-fungible token(NFT)s, the method comprising:
- identifying, using at least one processor, an account for which to create a credential;
- authenticating, using the at least one processor, a holder of the account;
- generating, using the at least one processor, an NFT and an associated smart contract, the NFT being a credential for the account;
- storing the NFT and the associated smart contract on at least one blockchain;
- providing the NFT to the holder;
- receiving a request requiring authorization associated with the account from a requestor;
- determining whether the NFT is associated with a token wallet associated with the request;
- fulfilling the request responsive to determining the NFT is associated with the token wallet;
- and
- denying the request responsive to determining the NFT is not associated with the token wallet.
A computer-implemented method for delegating authority using a non-fungible token (NFT), the method comprising:
- receiving, at an application programming interface, a delegation specification comprising an identity of a delegate and a scope of authority to delegate;
- generating a smart contract encoding the scope of authority, the smart contract comprising programmatic logic to evaluate transaction requests against the encoded scope of authority;
- deploying the smart contract to at least one blockchain;
- minting an NFT associated with the deployed smart contract;
- providing the NFT to a digital wallet of the delegate;
- subsequently receiving, at the application programming interface, a transaction request associated with the delegate;
- invoking the smart contract on the blockchain with parameters of the transaction request;
- receiving, from the smart contract, an authorization determination;
- and
- authorizing or denying the transaction request in accordance with the authorization determination.
