Abstract
Installation systems and methods for fenestration units configured to be set into a rough opening (RO) from interior side of a building structure or wall. The fenestration units may include a retention system coupled to the frame and operable to exert a retention force on the fenestration unit to maintain positive engagement of the fenestration unit with the rough opening framing and resist extraction of the fenestration unit from the rough opening upon insertion of the fenestration unit in the rough opening from the interior side of the rough opening.

A fenestration unit sealing system comprising:
- a fenestration unit having an inner side and an outer side and configured to be installed in a rough opening of a structure defined by a rough opening framing, the fenestration unit being spaced apart from the rough opening framing upon installation such that a gap is defined therebetween, the fenestration unit including a frame having an interior side corresponding to the inner side of the fenestration unit, an exterior side corresponding to the outer side of the fenestration unit, and a perimeter extending between the interior and the exterior sides of the frame;
- and
- a weather seal system coupled to the frame, the weather seal system including,
- at least one weather fin extending along at least a portion of the perimeter of the frame and positioned toward the outer side,
- an intermediate portion, and
- a barrier system including a barrier fin coupled to the intermediate portion, the barrier fin being spaced apart from the at least one weather fin by the intermediate portion such that the barrier fin is closer to the interior side of the frame than the at least one weather fin, the barrier fin having an end portion that extends into the gap.
A system comprising:
- a fenestration unit having an inner side and an outer side and configured to be installed in a rough opening of a structure defined by a rough opening framing, the fenestration unit being spaced apart from the rough opening framing upon installation such that a gap is defined therebetween, the fenestration unit including a frame having an interior side corresponding to the inner side of the fenestration unit, an exterior side corresponding to the outer side of the fenestration unit, and a perimeter extending between the interior and the exterior sides of the frame;
- a fin assembly extending along at least a portion of the perimeter of the frame, the fin assembly including,
- a weather fin extending along an exterior side of the rough opening framing, and
- a barrier fin spaced apart from the weather fin such that the barrier fin is closer to the interior side of the frame relative to the weather fin;
- and
- a sealant configured to be positioned within a portion of the gap.
A method of installing a fenestration unit within a rough opening of a structure defined by a rough opening framing, the fenestration unit having a frame, the method comprising:
- inserting the fenestration unit into the rough opening, the fenestration unit being spaced apart from the rough opening framing upon installation such that a gap is defined between the frame and the rough opening framing;
- transitioning a fin assembly coupled to a perimeter of the fenestration unit from a constrained configuration in which the fin assembly is compressed toward the frame toward a deployed state in which the fin assembly projects from the perimeter of the frame, the fin assembly including a weather fin extending along the exterior side of the fenestration unit in the deployed state and a barrier fin spaced apart from the weather fin and extending within the gap;
- and
- applying a sealant within the gap, the barrier fin configured to contain the sealant within a first portion of the gap such that a second portion of the gap is devoid of the sealant, wherein the first portion of the gap is toward the interior side of the structure.
