Abstract
The instant disclosure generally relates to lubricating compositions having an oil of lubricating viscosity, a mixture of dispersants including a high TBN dispersant having a number average molecular weight of 2000 or higher, a low TBN dispersant having a number average molecular weight of 2000 or higher, a magnesium detergent and a molybdenum compound. The lubricating compositions of the invention contain less than 120 ppm boron and are substantially free of low molecular weight dispersants.

A lubricating composition comprising:
- a. an oil of lubricating viscosity;
- b. a high TBN dispersant having a number average molecular weight of 2000 or higher;
- c. a low TBN dispersant having a number average molecular weight of 2000 or higher;
- d. a magnesium detergent in an amount to deliver 400 ppm to 800 ppm or 500 ppm to 700 ppm or 600 ppm to 700 ppm magnesium to the lubricating composition;
- e. less than 120 ppm boron;
- and
- f. a molybdenum compound in an amount to provide 50 to 500 ppm, or 50 to 500 ppm, or 60 to 200 ppm, or 70 ppm to 150 ppm molybdenum to the lubricating composition.
