Abstract
The invention comprises a method of making continuous basalt fibers. The method comprises delivering a natural mineral from one or more of hyaloclastite, volcanic glass, volcanic ash, or lava quenched by water of a basaltic, intermediate basaltic or andesitic chemical composition, melting the mineral and extruding the molten material into a continuous fiber.
Claims14
A method comprising:
- melting basaltic hyaloclastite or intermediate basaltic hyaloclastite, wherein the basaltic hyaloclastite or intermediate basaltic hyaloclastite is at least 20% by weight amorphous;
- and
- extruding the molten material into a continuous fiber.
