Detachable Fastener Clip

A fastener assembly comprising:

• a body panel comprising a housing;
• and
• a detachable automotive fastener clip for attachment of the body panel to a chassis slot, comprising:
• a grommet to removably attach to the chassis slot, the grommet comprising;
• a grommet base having an opening:
• at least two wings on opposite ends of the grommet base;
• fingers at an end of the at least two wings opposite the grommet base;
• a wing tip at the end of each of the at least two wings;
• and
• an engagement region formed on the at least two wings between the grommet base and the fingers to engage and detach with the chassis slot;
• and
• a clip to removably attach to the grommet, the clip having a head at one end of the clip, the clip comprising:
• a clip base at an opposite end of the head such that the clip base engages the housing;
• two laterally spaced apart parallel walls extending from the clip base;
• ramp portions formed on the head of each wall on the end opposite the clip base;
• a shoulder formed on the two laterally spaced apart parallel walls in the head;
• and
• a taper formed on the two laterally spaced apart parallel walls between the head and the clip base;
• wherein as the clip is inserted into the opening, so that the shoulder formed on the two laterally spaced apart parallel walls slides past the fingers and engage the wing tip at the end of each of the at least two wings.

A vehicle comprising:

• a vehicle chassis having a slot;
• a body panel comprising a housing;
• and
• a detachable automotive fastener clip for attachment of the body panel to the slot, comprising:
• a grommet comprising;
• a grommet base having an opening:
• at least two wings on opposite ends of the grommet base;
• fingers at an end of the at least two wings opposite the grommet base;
• a wing tip at the end of the at least two wings;
• and
• an engagement region formed on the at least two wings between the grommet base and the fingers to engage and detach with the slot;
• and
• a clip having a head at one end of the clip, the clip comprising:
• a clip base at an opposite end of the head such that the clip base engages the housing;
• two laterally spaced apart parallel walls extending from the clip base;
• ramp portions formed on the head of each wall on the end opposite the clip base;
• a shoulder formed on each wall in the head;
• and
• a taper formed on the two laterally spaced apart parallel walls between the head and the clip base;
• wherein as the clip is inserted into the opening so that the shoulder on each wall slides past the fingers and engages the wing tip.
