Abstract
An energy absorbing structure for a vehicle includes a unitary structure having an upper portion sized to extend across the vehicle. The upper portion has a first stiffness. A lower portion is sized to extend across the vehicle. The lower portion has a second stiffness greater than the first stiffness.

An energy absorbing structure for a vehicle comprising:
- a unitary structure comprising;
- an upper portion sized to extend across the vehicle, the upper portion comprising a first stiffness;
- and
- a lower portion sized to extending across the vehicle, the lower portion comprising a second stiffness greater than the first stiffness.
