Gate valve seat puller

A valve seat engagement tool for a valve seat having an inner diameter, comprising:

• a mandrel having a first end comprising a tapered surface separated from a threaded end along a distance;
• a plurality of collet elements having a truncated triangular shape comprising an outer curved face, an inner tapered face, and two side faces disposed opposite one-another;
• the plurality of collet elements dimensioned and arranged such that when each of the plurality of collet elements are assembled side to side to form a collet element assembly, the outer curved faces form a discontinuous cylinder, and the inner tapered faces form a frustoconical shaped opening bound by the plurality of tapered faces having a taper dimensioned to cooperate with the tapered surface of the mandrel when disposed therethrough;
• the tapered surface of the mandrel and the inner tapered faces of the collet elements configured such that movement of the mandrel relative to the collet element assembly in a first direction causes the plurality of collet elements to expand radially outward and away from the mandrel such that the outer curved faces form a discontinuous cylindrical surface of the collet element assembly having a first expanded diameter;
• and
• movement of the mandrel relative to the collet element assembly in a second direction opposite the first direction allows the plurality of collet elements to contract radially inward toward the mandrel such that the outer curved faces form a discontinuous cylindrical surface of the collet element assembly having a second contracted diameter;
• a collet plate disposable around the mandrel and slidingly engageable with each of the plurality of collet elements, comprising a plurality of elongated slots disposed therethrough configured to slidingly engage a corresponding plurality of threaded members, each disposed through one of the elongated slots and engaged with one of the plurality of collet elements of the collet element assembly, the plurality of elongated slots dimensioned and arranged within the collet plate to maintain the collet element assembly in an expandable cylindrical arrangement;
• wherein the second contracted diameter is less than the inner diameter of the valve seat, and the first expanded diameter is larger than the inner diameter of the valve seat.
