Abstract
A basketball net having improved ball contacting features is provided. The basketball net may be formed from an antimicrobial and moisture wicking fiber and may be configured to increase contact between the ball and the fibers of the basketball net. As compared to a traditional net, the basketball net may include thicker fibers, a tighter weave, an increased number of knots, larger knots, a smaller interior diameter, and other features to increase contact with a surface of a basketball during play.

A net for a basketball hoop, the net comprising one or more fibers extending
- coaxially about a vertical axis from a top end to a bottom end and comprising:
- a body portion including a plurality of rows of diamond-shaped openings constructed from the one or more fibers;
- and
- a plurality of loops attached to the body portion, wherein the plurality of loops define the top end of net, and
- wherein the net is configured to remove moisture from a surface of a basketball passing through the net.
