A medical system including a receptacle device configured to hold an implantable medical device (IMD) within a receptacle volume. The receptacle device is supported by a delivery catheter configured to position the receptacle device within an anatomical volume of a patient, such as a heart chamber. The receptacle device includes a receptacle electrode configured to conduct a signal from an environment surrounding the receptacle device to the receptacle volume such that, for example, the signal may communicate to an electrode positioned within the receptacle volume. The signal may be an intrinsic cardiac electrical signal produced by the patient's heart. The electrode may be configured to communicate the signal to processing circuitry for evaluation (e.g., by a clinician) of the positioning and/or proximity of the IMD relative to a target site, a suitability of the target site, a deployment of the IMD, and/or for other reasons.
