Multi-configurable sternal fixation systems, methods, and devices with a force dispersion supplement

Abstract

Systems, methods, and devices disclosed herein include a sternal fixation device involving a sternal fixation wire with one or more force dispersion supplement(s). The sternal fixation wire is operable to at least partially wrap around a first bone section and a second bone section to provide a compressive force on the first bone section and the second bone section. The compressive force pushes the first bone section and the second bone section toward a centerline between the first bone section and the second bone section. Additionally, the force dispersion supplement is disposed around at least a portion of the sternal fixation wire. The force dispersion supplement is operable to increase a force dispersion surface area of the sternal fixation wire at attachment zone(s) on the first bone section or the second bone section. The increased force dispersion surface area reduces potential damage caused to the bone tissue.
