An expandable sacroiliac (SI) joint fixation device includes a housing translationally coupled to a distal pivot body along a longitudinal axis. At least one endplate is pivotally coupled to the distal pivot body and configured to pivot outwardly from a closed position to an expanded position upon translation of the housing toward the distal pivot body. At least one deployable anchor is movably coupled to the distal pivot body and configured to move from a retracted position within the endplate to a deployed position extending outwardly through the endplate and into bone adjacent to the SI joint. An actuation mechanism, including a screw drive, is configured to simultaneously cause the endplates to expand and the anchors to deploy, providing both joint distraction and enhanced fixation in a single actuation step. The device is inserted in a compact configuration through a posterior approach and expanded in situ.
