Bone Access, Bone Capture, and Aspiration Devices

A method of treating a bone lesion, the method comprising:

• a) accessing a site in a bone of a patient with a bone lesion, the accessing comprising:
• positioning a bone access device adjacent to the bone of the patient, the device comprising a cannula and a removable stylet inserted through a lumen defined by the cannula, the cannula and the removable stylet being mated together to enable the cannula and the removable stylet to rotate together;
• penetrating into the bone by applying a rotational force to the stylet, the rotational force applied enabling at least a portion of the stylet and the cannula to advance to the site in the bone;
• and
• removing the stylet from the lumen of the cannula, leaving the cannula embedded in the bone and enabling access to the site in the bone via the lumen of the cannula;
• b) modifying the site accessed in the bone via the lumen of the cannula;
• and
• c) delivering a treatment agent to the site in the bone accessed and modified via the lumen of the cannula, the treatment agent treating the bone lesion.

A method of capturing a bone dowel, the method comprising:

• a) positioning a bone access device adjacent to a bone of a patient, the device comprising a first cannula and a removable first stylet inserted through a lumen defined by the first cannula, the first cannula and the first stylet being mated together to enable the first cannula and the first stylet to rotate together;
• b) penetrating into the bone by applying a rotational force to the first stylet, the rotational force applied enabling at least a portion of the first stylet and the first cannula to advance to the site in the bone;
• c) removing the first stylet from the lumen of the first cannula, leaving the first cannula embedded in the bone;
• d) advancing the first cannula further into the bone to cause the first cannula to receive in the lumen of the first cannula a bone dowel from the site in the bone;
• and
• e) capturing the bone dowel by inserting a second cannula into the first cannula, the second cannula configured to cooperated with the first cannula to capture the bone dowel within the lumen of the first cannula.
