Abstract
A trough-type animal feed distribution apparatus that includes a cover member that is movable by way of an actuating mechanism relative to upper edges of at least one trough segment between (i) a lower, closed position is configured to block animal access to the trough segment and (ii) an upper, open position that is configured to enable animal access to the trough segment. A movable member comprises a shaft configured to rotate about a longitudinal axis extending parallel to the trough segment, and at least one tether extending between the shaft and the cover member, wherein rotation of the shaft causes the tethers to be selectively wrapped around the shaft to raise or lower the cover member.
Claims18
An animal feed distribution apparatus comprising:
- at least one trough segment comprising a trough bottom wall spanning between trough sidewalls, the trough sidewalls comprising upper edges, and the at least one trough segment being configured to receive a movable conveying mechanism for distributing granular animal feed material along a length of the at least one trough segment;
- a cover member configured to selectively block animal access to the at least one trough segment, the cover member being movable between (i) a lower, closed position that is proximate to the upper edges of the trough sidewalls and is configured to block animal access to the at least one trough segment and (ii) an upper, open position that is distal from the upper edges of the trough sidewalls and is configured to enable animal access to the at least one trough segment;
- and
- an actuating mechanism configured to move the cover member between the lower, closed position and the upper, open position.
