Abstract

A photobioreactor comprising: a reactor vessel; a light diffusion system positioned to provide illumination to the reactor vessel having a light source configured to emit light, a light diffusion medium configured to receive the light and diffuse the light into an evenly diffused pattern, wherein the light diffusion comprises features and/or textures designed to aid in dispersing the light uniformly as an output light pattern; a control module configured to provide at least one of automated wavelength control, light separation and light incidence angle adjustment; a nutrient supply configured to supply nutrients to the reactor vessel; a mixing system integrated within the reactor vessel configured to maintain a homogeneous mix of light and nutrients; and a harvest duct to collect biomass produced by the photobioreactor.
