Technologies for micro-LED optical interconnects are disclosed. In an illustrative embodiment, micro-LEDs are used to drive optical signals coupled to a multi-mode fiber. The multi-mode fiber carries the light to a photodetector array. The photodetector array includes several pixels, each of which has several nanowire phototransistors. The nanowire phototransistors have a fast response time and a combined high quantum efficiency. The nanowire phototransistors may be wavelength selective, allowing for wavelength division multiplexing. Additionally or alternatively, a metasurface nanostructure may be included at the top and bottom of a photodetector, such as a photodiode or phototransistor, to filter out some wavelengths of light and increase detection of other wavelengths of light.
