Error estimation

A method, comprising:

• receiving, by a test system, a plurality of repetitions of a first signal and a second signal, wherein the plurality of repetitions of the first signal and the second signal are transmitted by a base station using beam weights that are progressively increasing in a horizontal domain and a vertical domain, and wherein the first signal is associated with a first antenna port and the second signal is associated with a second antenna port;
• for each repetition of the plurality of repetitions of the first signal and the second signal:
• extracting, by the test system, first data from the first signal and second data from the second signal, wherein the first data and the second data are associated with one or more wireless communication channels;
• determining, by the test system and based on the first data and the second data, relative progressive phase differences between the first antenna port and the second antenna port on the horizontal domain and on the vertical domain;
• and
• determining, by the test system and based on the relative phase differences, a first beamforming weight associated with the first signal and a second beamforming weight associated with the second signal;
• estimating, by the test system, a residual error associated with the second antenna port based on the first data, the second data, the first beamforming weight, and the second beamforming weight;
• and
• assessing, by the test system, a performance of the base station based on the residual error.

A test system, comprising:

• one or more memories;
• and
• one or more processors, coupled to the one or more memories, configured to:
• receive a first signal and a second signal, wherein the first signal and the second signal are transmitted by a base station, wherein the first signal and the second signal are symmetric on a horizontal domain without any beam tilt in a vertical domain, and wherein the first signal is associated with a first antenna port and the second signal is associated with a second antenna port;
• extract first data from the first signal and second data from the second signal, wherein the first data and the second data are associated with one or more wireless communication channels;
• normalize, based on the first data, the second data to generate normalized second data;
• estimate a residual error associated with the second antenna port based on the normalized second data;
• and
• assess a performance of the base station based on the residual error.
