Abstract

Aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to methods of preparing membrane electrode assemblies. More specifically, aspects of the present disclosure relate to preparing membrane electrode assemblies having an anode component formed via a rod coating process and a cathode component formed via a spray coating process. In some aspects, a method for preparing a membrane electrode assembly (MEA) includes depositing, by a rod coating process, a first ink composition onto a first surface of a substrate. The method further includes heat treating the substrate to convert the first ink composition to an anode component. The method further includes depositing, by a spray coating process, a second ink composition onto a second surface of the substrate opposite the first surface to form a MEA. The method further includes drying the MEA, wherein the second ink composition is converted to a cathode component.
