A method for operating an assembly of a digital printing machine and a folding machine, wherein the digital printing machine creates changing jobs of printed products based on respective job data, and the folding machine finishes the printed products by folding, cutting, and/or grooving printed sheets. Multiple jobs to be finished with like or similar settings are grouped to form respective series of consecutive jobs. A series-specific set of settings is specified for each series and digitally saved for the folding machine. The series are sequentially printed in the digital printing machine and finished at the folding machine and the series-specific settings are automatically provided. The process enables enhanced productivity of machines for manufacturing and finishing printed products in an assembly, especially in print shops with machinery for the press and post-press areas.
