A light emitting device includes a light source unit in which multiple light emitting elements are arranged along a principal scanning direction; a turning-on drive unit that outputs a turning-on signal for causing the light emitting elements to emit light to the light emitting elements, and that drives the light emitting elements to turn on so as to change a turning-on time width of the turning-on signal on a basis of a light amount of light to be emitted; and a voltage switching unit that switches to change a power supply voltage to be supplied to the light emitting elements, in which the voltage switching unit includes a number limiting unit that limits a number of times of switching of the power supply voltage.
