A microLED-based fan-out interconnect, comprising:
- a microLED;
- an input waveguide;
- a first lens positioned to couple light from the microLED into a first end of the input waveguide;
- a fan-out region at a second end of the input waveguide;
- a plurality of output waveguides positioned to receive light in the fan-out region from the microLED;
- and
- a plurality of photodetectors, each one of the plurality of photodetectors positioned to receive light from a corresponding one of the output waveguides.
