Abstract
A scroll compressor including a rotary shaft having a fluid passage formed therein to permit a working fluid and oil to flow from a high pressure region adjacent a compression mechanism of the scroll compressor to locations and components in a low pressure suction region requiring lubrication. At least one flow control device implemented as a nozzle, an orifice, a valve element, and/or a combination thereof may be provided in the fluid passage of the rotary shaft to control a back pressure of an orbiting scroll of the compression mechanism.
Claims20
A rotary shaft for a scroll compressor, comprising:
- a main body;
- a fluid passage formed in main body, the fluid passage configured to provide lubrication to one or more components within the scroll compressor;
- and
- at least one flow control device provided in the fluid passage and configured to control a back pressure of an orbiting scroll of the scroll compressor.
A scroll compressor, comprising:
- a housing;
- a compression mechanism disposed in the housing, the compression mechanism including a fixed scroll and an orbiting scroll;
- a motor disposed in the housing;
- and
- a rotary shaft operatively coupling the motor to the compression mechanism, wherein the rotary shaft includes:
- a main body;
- a fluid passage formed in main body, the fluid passage configured to provide lubrication within the scroll compressor;
- and
- at least one flow control device provided in the fluid passage and configured to control a back pressure of the orbiting scroll.
