A leak detector assembly for an air-operated diaphragm pump system. The system includes an air-operated diaphragm pump, a normally closed control valve positioned between an air source and the pump, and the leak detector assembly. The leak detector assembly is coupled to the exhaust of the pump. The leak detector assembly controls air flow through the pump responsive to detecting a leak in the pump. The leak detector assembly includes a float valve and a spring-loaded spool. The float valve moves responsive to a change in a fluid level in the leak detector assembly. The spring-loaded spool is coupled to the float valve. The spring-loaded spool, in a single motion, shuts the normally closed control valve and closes an exhaust from the leak detector assembly responsive to the change in the fluid level of the leak detector assembly equal to or above a threshold level.
