Abstract
Present embodiments relate to an engine oiling system. More specifically, but without limitation, present embodiments relate to an engine oiling system which provides a lower profile for the engine within the engine compartment.
Claims20
An oiling system for an engine comprising:
- an oil pump configured to be mounted to a timing cover of the engine and directly driven by a crankshaft of the engine, the oil pump having an oil input port and an oil output port;
- an oil pan having a first end configured to be positioned below a lower edge of the timing cover and a second end configured to be positioned below a block of the engine, wherein the first end extends laterally beyond the block such that the first end is positioned below the lower edge of the timing cover and not below the block, and wherein the second end of the oil pan defines a sump;
- and
- first and second conduits extending from the first end to the second end within the oil pan, wherein the first conduit is configured to establish fluid communication between the sump and the oil pump via the oil input port and the second conduit is configured to establish fluid communication between the pump and the engine block via the oil output port.

An oiling system for an engine comprising:
- an oil pan having a first end configured to be positioned below an oil pump and a second end configured to be positioned below a block of the engine, wherein the second end of the oil pan defines a sump;
- and
- at least one conduit extending from the first end to the second end within the oil pan, wherein the at least one conduit is configured to establish fluid communication between the sump, the oil pump, and the engine block, and wherein each conduit of the at least one conduit includes a first portion extending horizontally between the first and second ends and a second portion extending vertically along the first end and toward the oil pump.
