Abstract
A vehicle door latch for closing a vehicle door includes: a retention unit, an electrical release motor, an electrical gear wheel, and an opening lever that pivots around a rotation axis between a rest position and an opening position. The movement of the opening lever to the opening position moves the retention unit to its open position. The opening lever moves along the rotation axis between a first axial position engaging the electrical gear wheel and a second axial position disengaging from the electrical gear wheel such that the opening lever moves independently of the electrical gear wheel.

A vehicle door latch for closing a vehicle door, comprising:
- a retention unit configured to engage with a striker in a closed position and release the striker in an open position;
- an electrical release motor;
- an electrical gear wheel configured to be driven by said motor;
- and
- an opening lever configured to pivot around a rotation axis between a rest position and an opening position, a movement of the opening lever to the opening position being configured to move the retention unit to the open position,
- wherein the opening lever is configured to move along the rotation axis between:
- a first axial position in which the opening lever engages the electrical gear wheel to allow the electrical gear wheel to drive the opening lever, and
- a second axial position in which the opening lever disengages from the electrical gear wheel such that the opening lever is configured to move independently of the electrical gear wheel.
