Abstract
A device and method for a strike plate for a door frame member and/or assembly is shown and described. The invention may be considered a strike plate assembly and, in other embodiments, a lock strike plate with an adjustable aperture. The strike plate may fit within a mortise pocket on a door member of a door frame. The invention may include an adjustable base plate and a top plate. In some examples, the strike plate may include a first horizontally extended linear opening. The strike plate assembly may be selectively positionable within the mortise pocket to facilitate lateral adjustability of an interior space within an interior aperture by movement of at least a portion of the strike plate laterally.
Claims20
An adjustable strike plate assembly comprising:
- a base plate having a front side and a back side, the base plate defining an interior aperture and at least one mounting attachment projecting into an interior space of the interior aperture;
- and
- a top plate having a front side and a back side, the top plate defining a central aperture, at least one extended recess, and at least one extended slot,
- wherein the at least one extended recess is configured to allow lateral movement of the top plate relative to at least one mounting hole,
- wherein the at least one extended slot is configured to allow lateral movement of the top plate relative to the base plate, and
- wherein the base plate and the top plate are moveably affixed to one another such that lateral movement of at least one of the base plate and the top plate selectively adjusts a lateral position of the interior aperture relative to the central aperture.
An adjustable strike plate assembly comprising:
- a base plate having an upper end, a lower end, a jamb side, a latch side, and a lip projecting from the latch side and the base plate defining an interior aperture, wherein the lip includes an extension projecting from the latch side at an angle between 20 degrees and 60 degrees, and wherein the lip narrows as the lip extends distally from the extension to a terminating edge of the lip;
- and
- a top plate defining a central aperture, the base plate and the top plate moveably affixed to one another such that lateral movement of the base plate relative to the top plate selectively adjusts a lateral position of the interior aperture relative to the central aperture.
An adjustable strike plate assembly comprising:
- a base plate having a front side and a back side, the base plate defining an interior aperture, a roller slot for accepting a roller, and pin slots formed by shoulders on the base plate such that ends of a pin fitting through the roller are configured to be received in the pin slots;
- and
- a top plate having a front side and a back side, the top plate defining a central aperture, wherein an internal perimeter of the central aperture includes at least one shoulder and at least one drop shoulder, the at least one drop shoulder protruding further into a central opening of the central aperture than the at least one shoulder, the at least one drop shoulder configured to cover the ends of the pin to secure the roller in the strike plate assembly,
- wherein the base plate and the top plate are affixed to one another with the front side of the base plate in contact with the back side of the top plate such that lateral movement of the base plate relative to the top plate selectively adjusts a lateral position of the interior aperture relative to the central aperture.
