Abstract
Disclosed is a bioelectric hybrid system for producing lactic acid from carbon dioxide. The recombinant microorganism can produce lactic acid using, as carbon sources, carbon dioxide and formic acid electrochemically produced from carbon dioxide, and thus is useful for converting various high value-added compounds from carbon dioxide.
Claims24
A recombinant microorganism capable of producing lactic acid from carbon dioxide and formic acid,
- wherein a gene encoding L-lactate dehydrogenase is introduced into or amplified in a host microorganism having a central carbon assimilation pathway.
A method of producing lactic acid from carbon dioxide using a bioelectric hybrid system, the method including:
- (a) converting carbon dioxide into formic acid through an electrochemical reduction reaction;
- and
- (b) fermenting a microorganism capable of biosynthesizing lactic acid from formic acid and carbon dioxide using the formic acid converted in step (a), to produce lactic acid.
A bioelectric hybrid system device for producing lactic acid from carbon dioxide, including:
- (i) an electrolysis reactor for converting carbon dioxide into formic acid by an electrochemical reduction reaction;
- and
- (ii) a biosynthesis reactor fluidly connected to the electrolysis reactor and producing lactic acid from formic acid through fermentation of a microorganism in an electrode solution containing formic acid.
