Abstract
The invention describes removal of microparticles and nanoparticles of plastic from water, beverages and other water-based liquids using particle capturing solids and devices based on particle capturing solids. Particle capturing solids described include resilient thermoplastic polymers and lipophilic water-insoluble oils that are solids at room temperature. Devices are described that use particle capturing solids, facilitating easy introduction and retrieval from water, beverages and other water-based liquids.
Claims20
A method for removing plastic micro- and nanoparticles from water, beverages or other liquids by trapping using a particle capturing polymer.
A device for removing microplastic and nanoplastic particles from water, beverages or other liquids by trapping using a particle capturing polymer.
A method for removing plastic micro- and nanoparticles from water, beverages or other liquids by contacting a lipophilic, water immiscible seed oil, chemically modified seed oil, seed oil derivative or wax that is solid at room temperature with the particle containing liquid where the lipophilic, water immiscible seed oil, chemically modified seed oil, seed oil derivative, or wax that is solid at room temperature can be easily removed or otherwise avoided during consumption or use.
