Abstract
Methods of selecting and qualifying measurement equipment are presented. A layup of adjacent strips of material is repeatedly measured along a material interface by measurement equipment to form measurement data. A deadband of gaps and overlaps is identified for the measurement equipment within the measurement data.
Claims20
A method of selecting measurement equipment comprising:
- repeatedly measuring a layup of adjacent strips of material along a material interface by measurement equipment to form measurement data;
- and
- identifying a deadband of gaps and overlaps for the measurement equipment within the measurement data.
A method of selecting measurement equipment comprising:
- repeatedly measuring a layup of adjacent strips of material along a material interface by measurement equipment to form measurement data, the material interface comprising a varying overlap and a varying gap forming a taper interface;
- identifying a minimum overlap measurable to a desired reliability by the measurement equipment from the measurement data;
- identifying a minimum gap measurable to the desired reliability by the measurement equipment from the measurement data;
- and
- defining a deadband for the measurement equipment between the minimum overlap and the minimum gap.

A method of selecting measurement equipment comprising:
- laying up a second strip of material adjacent a first strip of material to form a taper interface with a varying gap and a varying overlap;
- repeatedly measuring the taper interface by measurement equipment to form measurement data;
- identifying a deadband for the measurement equipment between a minimum overlap measurable to a desired reliability from the measurement data and a minimum gap measurable to the desired reliability from the measurement data;
- and
- selecting the measurement equipment for inspection of a composite layup if the deadband of the measurement equipment is contained within a tolerance range for a composite layup.
