Torque wrench

A method for operating a torque wrench having a sensor and at least one processing circuit coupled to the sensor, the method comprising:

• determining, by the at least one processing circuit, the at least one processing circuit of the torque wrench, a torque setting value;
• determining, by the at least one processing circuit, a torque threshold based on the torque setting value;
• determining, by the at least one processing circuit, a current torque output value of the torque wrench;
• comparing, by the at least one processing circuit, the current torque output value to the torque threshold;
• incrementing, by the at least one processing circuit, a calibration count responsive to determining that the current torque output value exceeds the torque threshold;
• comparing, by the at least one processing circuit, the calibration count to a calibration threshold;
• determining, by the at least one processing circuit, that the calibration count exceeds the calibration threshold;
• and
• responsive to determining that the calibration count exceeds the calibration threshold, providing, by the at least one processing circuit, an indication to a user regarding the calibration count exceeding the calibration threshold.

A torque wrench comprising:

• a handle;
• an output shaft assembly comprising a spring, the output shaft assembly coupled to the handle so as to facilitate compression of the spring relative to the handle;
• a sensor configured to provide a signal associated with force provided by the spring;
• and
• at least one processing circuit coupled to the sensor, the at least one processing circuit configured to:
• determine a torque setting value of the torque wrench based on the signal;
• determine a torque threshold based on the torque setting value;
• after determining the torque threshold, determine a current torque output value of the torque wrench based on the signal;
• compare the current torque output value to the torque threshold;
• responsive to determining that the current torque output value exceeds the torque threshold, increment a calibration count;
• compare the calibration count to a calibration threshold;
• and
• responsive to determining that the calibration count exceeds the calibration threshold, provide an indication to a user regarding the calibration count exceeding the calibration threshold.
