Combination of dextromethorphan and bupropion for treating neurological and psychiatric conditions with reduced neurotoxicity

A method of reducing the risk of neurotoxicity to a breastfed human child, comprising:

• i) administering a combination of about 45 mg of dextromethorphan hydrobromide or a molar equivalent amount of another salt form of dextromethorphan or the free base form of dextromethorphan, and about 105 mg of bupropion hydrochloride or a molar equivalent amount of another salt form of bupropion or the free base form of bupropion to a human patient once daily or twice daily, wherein the human patient is a lactating mother of the human child and is experiencing major depressive disorder;
• and ii) advising the human patient not to breastfeed the human child while the combination is being administered to the human patient and for 5 days following the final dose of the combination, and wherein the human patient produces milk that is substantially free of dextromethorphan after 5 days from the final dose of the combination.
