Abstract
There is provided feeding tubes including an electromagnetic sensor, including a sensor body comprising a core positioned at a distal end of the sensor lumen, and a wire extending along the length of the feeding tube, wherein an RF induced heating of the feeding tube in an MRI environment is below 5 degrees.
Claims18
A feeding tube comprising:
- a feeding lumen for supplying substances or pressure to a subject's stomach and/or duodenum, through the esophagus;
- and
- a sensor lumen,
- an electromagnetic sensor comprising:
- a sensor body comprising a core positioned at a distal end of said sensor lumen, and
- a wire extending along the length of the sensor lumen, and
- an acoustic actuator coupled to the feeding tube, the acoustic actuator is configured to generate acoustic energy in the form of surface acoustic waves of Rayleigh-Lamb or Love type or a combination thereof on or along a surface of the feeding tube.

An enteral feeding system comprising:
- a feeding tube comprising:
- a feeding lumen for supplying substances or pressure to a subject's stomach and/or duodenum, through the esophagus;
- a sensor lumen,
- an electromagnetic sensor comprising a sensor body comprising a core positioned at a distal end of said sensor lumen, and a wire extending along the length of the sensor lumen, and
- an acoustic actuator coupled to the enteral feeding tube and configured to generate acoustic energy in the form of surface acoustic waves of Rayleigh-Lamb or Love type or a combination thereof on or along a surface of the feeding tube;
- and
- a field generator configured to generate an electromagnetic field over a subject's body;
- and
- a processing circuitry configured to:
- receive a first electromagnetic signal indicative of initiation of insertion of the feeding tube into the subject;
- trigger operation of the acoustic actuator in an unmodulated acoustic wave mode upon receiving the first electromagnetic signal, the unmodulated acoustic wave mode
- receive additional electromagnetic signals relating to changes in the electromagnetic field, the additional electromagnetic signals indicative of changes in the position of the feeding tube;
- determine the position of the feeding tube based on the received additional electromagnetic signals;
- and
- automatically switch to a modulated acoustic wave mode when the position of the feeding tube is determined to be a completed/final position.
