Absorbent articles and methods for applying a waist panel to elasticize a waist region with integrally formed side panels

A method for assembling absorbent articles, the method comprising steps of:

• providing a secondary carrier substrate comprising fasteners intermittently spaced apart from each other along a length of the secondary carrier substrate;
• separating the secondary carrier substrate into discrete fastener panels, each fastener panel comprising a first surface and an opposing second surface, wherein at least one fastener is positioned on the first surface;
• providing an elastic laminate comprising a first surface and an opposing second surface;
• bonding the second surfaces of the fastener panels with the first surface of the elastic laminate to form a waist panel laminate, the fastener panels being intermittently spaced from each other along a length of the elastic laminate;
• separating the waist panel laminate along at least one line of separation extending through the elastic laminate and the fastener panels to form discrete waist panels, each discrete waist panel comprising a first surface and an opposing second surface, a first end region, a second end region, and central region separating the first end region from the second end region, wherein each waist panel comprises a first portion of a first separated fastener panel on the first surface of the first end region and a second portion of a second separated fastener panel on the first surface of the second end region;
• advancing a primary carrier substrate in a machine direction, the primary carrier substrate comprising a first edge separated from a second edge in a cross direction, wherein first and second edges of the primary carrier substrate are contoured to define relatively narrow regions arranged intermittently between relatively wide regions along the machine direction, wherein the relatively wide regions comprise integrally formed wing panels;
• and
• bonding the waist panels with the primary carrier substrate, wherein the waist panels extend in a cross direction such that the first end region extends outboard from the first edge and the second end region extends outboard from the second edge of the primary carrier substrate.
