Abstract
A flexible plasma probe having a head piece with at least one plasma exit window that is neither radially nor axially, but arranged in the tapering end section of the head piece with opening direction (O) orientated obliquely relative to the longitudinal center axis (L). The flexible plasma probe may simplify and improve treatment of biological tissue, particularly lesions in body lumens by allowing greater proximity between the electrode and the lesion.
Claims20
A method of treatment of biological tissue, the method comprising:
- providing a plasma probe, the plasma probe comprising:
- a distal end and a proximal end;
- a flexible hose extending from a proximal end along a longitudinal center axis (L) towards the distal end, the flexible hose defining a lumen therein connected to an ionizable gas;
- an electrical conductor extending from an electrode at the proximal end toward the distal end and electrically connected to an electrical generator;
- and
- a head piece attached to the flexible hose, the head piece defining an interior therein connected to the lumen, the head piece having a rounded end section and at least one plasma exit window connected to the interior;
- contacting the rounded end section with the biological tissue;
- flowing the ionizable gas through the lumen, the interior, and the at least one plasma exit window in a direction of the biological tissue;
- supplying the electrode with high-frequency (HF) voltage from the electrical generator sufficient to ionize the ionizable gas thereby generating a plasma flow;
- directing the plasma flow through the at least one plasma exit window towards the biological tissue;
- applying the plasma flow to the biological tissue until at least one of tissue coagulation and ablation;
- and
- sliding the rounded end section across the biological tissue.
