Abstract

A separation system for a vacuum cleaning appliance is provided and includes a vacuum generator, an outlet chamber, an air permeable filter arrangement, and an air inlet pipe. The outlet chamber extends in a first direction and defines an air outlet. Air is drawn through the outlet chamber in the first direction by the vacuum generator, in use, towards the air outlet. The air permeable filter arrangement separates the outlet chamber from a dirt collection chamber. The air inlet pipe extends through a portion of the outlet chamber and includes a throat portion defining a discharge opening into the dirt collection chamber. The throat portion extends in a second direction transverse to the first direction. The throat portion of the air inlet pipe defines a streamlined outer profile in respect of the first direction of air flow through the outlet chamber to the air outlet.
