Face guard assembly for helmet with edge band mounting

A visor assembly for attachment to a helmet having an edge band, the edge band having an interior upper edge, an exterior upper edge, and a curved bottom surface, the visor assembly comprising:

• a visor shield having a pivot attachment, the pivot attachment comprising a knuckle having a cylindrical barrel configured to receive a removable pivot pin therein, the knuckle having a first radial end and a second radial end, each radial end including one or more radially spaced apart recesses;
• a visor pivot assembly attachable to a forward portion of the edge band, the visor pivot assembly comprising:
• a removable pivot pin;
• an interior edge band bracket having an upper lip catch configured to mate with the interior upper edge of the edge band;
• an exterior edge band bracket configured to attach to the interior edge band bracket such that the interior edge band bracket and the exterior edge band bracket together envelope a portion of a cross-sectional profile of the edge band, the exterior edge band bracket having a pivot support assembly comprising:
• a first side collar having a first side cylinder bore and a first side nose spring plunger;
• and
• a second side collar having a second side cylinder bore and a second side nose spring plunger;
• wherein the first side cylinder bore and the second side cylinder bore are spaced apart and longitudinally aligned to receive the removable pivot pin therein;
• and
• wherein the first and second nose spring plungers are configured to engage with the radially spaced apart recesses of the knuckle to position the visor shield at predetermined positions throughout a path of rotation.

A mandible guard mount for attaching a mandible guard to a helmet having an edge band, the edge band having an exterior upper edge, an interior upper edge, an exterior wall surface, an interior wall surface, and a curved bottom surface, the mandible guard mount comprising:

• a helmet attachment portion configured to snap onto an angled portion of the edge band, the helmet attachment portion comprising:
• a curved upper lip catch extending between an aft end and a forward end and shaped to mate with the exterior upper edge of the edge band;
• a curved lower seat extending between an aft end and a forward end and shaped to mate with the exterior wall surface and the curved bottom surface of the edge band;
• an intermediate tension bracket laterally extending from an intermediate point of the curved lower seat and having a curved interior surface for mating with the curved bottom surface and the interior wall surface of the edge band;
• a forward tension bracket laterally extending from the curved lower seat forward of the intermediate tension bracket and having a curved interior surface for mating with the curved bottom surface and the interior wall surface of the edge band;
• and
• a thumb release tension bracket integral with and laterally extending from the aft end of the curved lower seat, the thumb release tension bracket having a curved interior surface terminating at an upper lip catch for mating with the curved bottom surface, the interior wall surface, and the interior upper edge of the edge band, the thumb release tension bracket having a release tab for applying a torque that releases the thumb release tension bracket from the edge band;
• wherein the curved upper lip catch, the curved lower seat, the intermediate tension bracket, the forward tension bracket, and the thumb release tension bracket combine to form a curved channel shaped to capture a segment of the angled portion of the edge band;
• and
• a forward mandible attachment portion comprising attachment holes configured to connect the mandible guard mount to the mandible guard.
