Abstract
Disclosed herein are cellulose acetate tow as well as tow bands, tow bales, and filters formed from the cellulose acetate tow. The tow comprises cellulose acetate tow with a DPF of greater than 7.0 to 12.5 and having filaments with a cross-sectional shape with a specific surface area (SSAi) of less than 2.00.
Claims20
A cellulose acetate tow comprising cellulose acetate filaments, the tow having:
- a degree of substitution from 2.0 to 2.9;
- a denier per filament (dpf) from greater than 7.0 to 12.5;
- a total denier from 10,000 to 100,000;
- and
- wherein the cellulose acetate filaments have a cross-sectional shape with an SSAi of less than 2.00, where SSAi=measured perimeter (μ)/perimeter of circle of equivalent area (μ);
- and
- further wherein the cross-sectional shape is not Y-shaped.
