The present disclosure generally relates to systems and methods for raising superworms and other insects. Certain aspects are generally directed to articles having a plurality of cavities that superworms or other larvae can enter and then pupate. For instance, the article may have tens, hundreds, or thousands of such cavities. It has been found that superworms prefer cavities of certain dimensions, while cavities that are too large or too small are not as conducive to pupation by superworms. In some cases, the superworms will also move about the article to look for an unoccupied cavity in which to enter, which can be used to facilitate loading of the article with the superworms, for example, since an article can be exposed to a colony of superworms, which then may enter the cavities themselves. In addition, in some embodiments, after pupation, the humidity within the cavities can be controlled, e.g., by using a mesh or through-holes to regulate airflow. Other aspects are generally directed to systems of making or using such articles, kits involving such articles, or the like.
