The present disclosure relates to a remote control device and a method for controlling the operation of a display device using same, the remote control device comprising: a communication unit; a user input unit including a plurality of user buttons; and a control unit that controls the communication unit to transmit a screen information control signal corresponding to each user button, wherein the control unit may: when a specific button among the plurality of user buttons is pressed, measure press time of the specific button; when the press time of the specific button is less than or equal to a first set time, transmit a screen information control signal including button data to the display device; and when the press time of the specific button exceeds the first set time, transmit a screen information control signal including scroll data to the display device.
