Abstract
The present disclosure describes methods and systems for managing a media viewing session, e.g., by associating a media content access level of a first user account with a subscription tier of a second user account. This process includes detecting a login event over a network associated with the second user account and adjusting the first account's access to media content based on the second account's subscription capabilities.

(canceled)
A computer-implemented method comprising:
- identifying an account associated with a content provider, wherein the account indicates a first tier of subscription with the content provider;
- determining that a client device associated with the account has been coupled to a wireless network associated with the content provider;
- based at least in part on determining the client device has been coupled to the wireless network:
- transitioning the account to a second tier of subscription with the content provider instead of the first tier of subscription, wherein a lower frequency of advertisements is provided to accounts having the second tier of subscription with the content provider as compared to accounts having the first tier of subscription with the content provider;
- and
- providing one or more media content items to the client device having the second tier of subscription with the content provider;
- and
- based at least in part on determining that the client device is no longer coupled to the wireless network, transitioning the account back to the first tier of subscription with the content provider.
A computer-implemented method performed by a client device, the method comprising:
- identifying an account associated with a content provider, wherein the account indicates a first tier of subscription with the content provider;
- coupling the client device associated with the account to a wireless network associated with the content provider;
- based at least in part on the client device being coupled to the wireless network:
- receiving a first indication that the account transitioned to having a second tier of subscription with the content provider instead of the first tier of subscription, wherein a lower frequency of advertisements is provided to accounts having the second tier of subscription with the content provider as compared to accounts having the first tier of subscription with the content provider;
- and
- providing a second one or more media content items using the account associated with the content provider, wherein the account indicates the second tier of subscription with the content provider;
- and
- based at least in part on the client device no longer being coupled to the wireless network, receiving a second indication that the account transitioned to having the first tier of subscription with the content provider.
A system comprising control circuitry configured to:
- identify an account associated with a content provider, wherein the account indicates a first tier of subscription with the content provider;
- determine that a client device associated with the account has been coupled to a wireless network associated with the content provider;
- based at least in part on determining the client device has been coupled to the wireless network:
- transition the account to a second tier of subscription with the content provider instead of the first tier of subscription, wherein a lower frequency of advertisements is provided to accounts having the second tier of subscription with the content provider as compared to accounts having the first tier of subscription with the content provider;
- and
- provide one or more media content items to the client device having the second tier of subscription with the content provider;
- and
- based at least in part on determining that the client device is no longer coupled to the wireless network, transition the account back to the first tier of subscription with the content provider.
