Session content produced during a communication session is written continually to a recording buffer, wherein the recording buffer overwrites previously written portions upon reaching a storage capacity such that the recording buffer maintains a rolling record of the most recently produced session content. Portions of session content attributable to one or more presenting participants are written to the recording buffer, while portions attributable to non-presenting participants are excluded. Upon receiving a request from a participant device to generate a note, a designated portion of the session content is retrieved from the recording buffer and used to generate the note. The recording buffer can include a plurality of discrete media buffers, each storing time-stamped audio, video, or image-capture content attributable to the presenting participants, which are combined to produce a multimodal note. Non-presenting participant content that is written to the recording buffer can be removed at the note-generation stage.
