Electronic device for controlling internet-of-things device, and storage medium therefor

An Internet of things (IoT) device comprising:

• a communication circuit;
• at least one processor functionally connected to the communication circuit;
• and
• memory, comprising one or more storage media, storing instructions,
• wherein the instructions, when executed by the at least one processor individually or collectively, cause the IoT device to:
• activate a device-to-device (D2D) function of the communication circuit,
• based on the D2D function being activated, receive at least one packet broadcast from an external electronic device via the communication circuit in a scan mode,
• determine whether device information included in the at least one packet matches device information of the IoT device,
• in case that the device information included in the at least one packet matches the device information of the IoT device, decrypt encrypted data included in the at least one packet with a specified encryption key to obtain connection information,
• based on the obtained connection information, perform an onboarding procedure for a server, and
• in case that the device information included in the at least one packet does not match the device information of the IoT device, ignore at least one advertising (ADV) packet.

One or more non-transitory computer-readable storage media storing one or more programs, wherein the one or more programs comprises instructions that, when executed by at least one processor of an electronic device individually or collectively, cause the electronic device to perform operations, the operations comprising:

• obtaining a machine-readable code related to an external electronic device via a camera;
• based on device information of the external electronic device, obtained based on the machine-readable code, determining whether the external electronic device supports specified fast onboarding;
• in case that the external electronic device supports the fast onboarding, encrypting connection information, which is used by the external electronic device for a connection to a network, with a specified encryption key to generate encrypted data;
• broadcasting at least one packet comprising the device information and the encrypted data;
• and
• in case that the external electronic device does not support the fast onboarding, operating the electronic device in a scan mode to receive an advertising (ADV) packet broadcast from the external electronic device.

One or more non-transitory computer-readable storage media storing at least one program, wherein the at least one program comprises instructions that, when executed by at least one processor of an Internet of things (IoT) device individually or collectively, cause the IoT device to perform operations, the operations comprising:

• activating a device-to-device (D2D) function of the IoT device;
• based on the D2D function being activated, receiving at least one packet broadcast from an external electronic device in a scan mode;
• determining whether device information included in the at least one packet matches device information of the IoT device;
• in case that the device information included in the at least one packet matches the device information of the IoT device, decrypting encrypted data included in the at least one packet with a specified encryption key to obtain connection information;
• based on the obtained connection information, performing an onboarding procedure for a server;
• and
• in case that the device information included in the at least one packet does not match the device information of the IoT device, ignoring at least one advertising (ADV) packet.
