A rotary electric machine is provided with a stator having a stator winding; a rotor having a rotor core including a main pole part provided at each of magnetic poles arranged in a circumferential direction, protruding in a radial direction, and a field winding wound around the main pole part; and a rotary shaft integrated with the rotor core, high frequency current flowing through the stator winding to induce a field current through the field winding. The rotary shaft is made of ferromagnetic material. The rotary electric machine is further provided with an axial winding wound around the rotary shaft, being energized by the field current flowing through the field winding; and a magnetic flux detecting part provided at an axial end of the rotary shaft, detecting a magnetic flux produced when energizing the axial winding.
