Abstract
A generator comprising a motor, an alternator driveable by the motor, and an enclosure comprising one or more removable panels is disclosed. In use, the motor is operated to drive the alternator such that the alternator can supply electrical power to a load coupled to the generator. The generator further comprises a breaker that is actuatable, in various instances, to decouple the alternator from the load. Disclosed herein is an enclosure that allows the load to be easily coupled to the generator.
Claims16
A generator, comprising:
- an engine;
- an alternator driven by the engine and configured to supply electrical energy to a load circuit;
- a controller configured to control at least one of the engine and the alternator;
- a load circuit breaker switchable between a closed state and an open state, wherein the breaker is configured to permit electricity to flow to the load circuit from the alternator when the breaker is in its closed state, and wherein the breaker is configured to interrupt the flow of electricity from the alternator to the load circuit when the breaker is in its open state;
- and
- an enclosure, wherein the engine and the alternator are positioned in the enclosure, and wherein the enclosure comprises:
- a frame;
- a front panel removably attached to the frame;
- a rear panel removably attached to the frame, wherein the rear panel is positioned opposite the front panel;
- a first lateral side panel removably attached to the frame;
- a second lateral side panel removably attached to the frame, wherein the second lateral side panel is positioned opposite the first lateral side panel;
- a bottom panel attached to the frame, wherein the front panel, the rear panel, the first lateral side panel, the second lateral side panel, and the bottom panel define an enclosed space having an open top;
- and
- a lid movably attached to the frame, wherein the lid is movable between an open position and a closed position, and wherein the lid covers the enclosed space when the lid is in its closed position;
- and
- a removable breaker cover extending over the breaker, wherein the breaker cover is positioned in the enclosed space, and wherein the generator can be electrically coupled to a load circuit by removing the breaker cover when the lid is in its open position without having to remove the front panel, the rear panel, the first lateral side panel, the second lateral side panel, the bottom panel, and the lid from the frame.
A generator, comprising:
- an engine;
- an alternator driven by the engine and configured to supply electrical energy to a load circuit;
- a controller configured to control at least one of the engine and the alternator;
- a load circuit breaker switchable between a closed state and an open state, wherein the breaker is configured to permit electricity to flow to the load circuit from the alternator when the breaker is in its closed state, and wherein the breaker is configured to interrupt the flow of electricity from the alternator to the load circuit when the breaker is in its open state;
- and
- an enclosure, wherein the engine and the alternator are positioned in the enclosure, and wherein the enclosure comprises:
- a frame;
- a front panel removably attached to the frame;
- a rear panel removably attached to the frame, wherein the rear panel is positioned opposite the front panel;
- a first lateral side panel removably attached to the frame;
- a second lateral side panel removably attached to the frame, wherein the second lateral side panel is positioned opposite the first lateral side panel;
- a bottom panel attached to the frame, wherein the front panel, the rear panel, the first lateral side panel, the second lateral side panel, and the bottom panel define an enclosed space having an open top;
- and
- a lid movably attached to the frame, wherein the lid is movable between an open position and a closed position, and wherein the lid covers the enclosed space when the lid is in its closed position;
- and
- a removable breaker cover extending over the breaker, wherein the breaker cover is positioned in the enclosed space,
- wherein the generator can be:
- mechanically coupled to a mounting pad by removing the front panel to access mounting apertures in the bottom panel without having to remove the rear panel, the first lateral side panel, the second lateral side panel, the bottom panel, and the lid from the frame;
- and
- electrically coupled to a load circuit by removing the breaker cover without having to remove the front panel, the rear panel, the first lateral side panel, the second lateral side panel, the bottom panel, and the lid from the frame.
A method of installing a generator comprising an enclosure, a motor, an alternator driveable by the motor, and a circuit breaker, wherein the motor, the alternator and the circuit breaker are positioned in the enclosure, wherein the enclosure comprises a frame and a front panel, a rear panel positioned opposite the front panel, a first lateral side panel, a second lateral side panel positioned opposite the first lateral side panel, a bottom panel, and a movable lid, all of which being removably attached to the frame, and wherein the generator further comprises a circuit breaker operable to electrically couple and decouple the alternator with a load circuit, the method comprising:
- positioning the generator on a mounting pad;
- removing the front panel from the frame to access the bottom panel and mount the bottom panel to the mounting pad;
- and
- removing a breaker panel at least partially covering the circuit breaker to electrically couple the circuit breaker with the load circuit,
- wherein said removing steps can be performed without having to remove the rear panel, the first lateral side panel, the second lateral side panel, the bottom panel, and the lid from the enclosure.
