Abstract
Processes for producing sulfide-based solid electrolytes include contacting solid electrolyte precursors with molten sulfur. The resulting sulfide-based solid electrolyte has a low carbon content and large particle size. The solid electrolyte includes a crystalline phase, an amorphous phase, or a combination thereof.
Claims24
A process for making a sulfide-based solid composite including a sulfide-based solid electrolyte, comprising:
- contacting a solid electrolyte precursor with molten elemental sulfur at a temperature of about 100° C. or greater to form a sulfide-based solid composite.
A sulfide-based solid electrolyte comprising lithium and sulfur having a particle size greater than about 0.5 μm produced by:
- contacting a solid electrolyte precursor with molten elemental sulfur at a temperature greater from about 100° C. and to about 300° C. for a period of time from about 1 minute to about 36 hours to produce a sulfide-based solid composite;
- separating at least 90% of the molten elemental sulfur from the sulfide-based solid composite;
- and
- heating the sulfide-based solid composite to a temperature of greater than about 300° C. for a period of time from about 1 minute to about 36 hours.
