Abstract
A storage network is operable to store a first set of encoded data slices via a set of storage units, wherein the first set of encoded data slices includes at least a decode threshold number of encoded data slices. Based on determining a first encoded data slice of the first set of encoded data slices requires rebuilding, a second encoded data slice that is distinct from the first set of encoded data slices is generated and is stored via the set of storage units.
Claims20
A method for execution by one or more computing devices within a storage network, the method comprises:
- storing a first set of encoded data slices via a set of storage units, wherein the first set of encoded data slices includes at least a decode threshold number of encoded data slices;
- and
- based on determining a first encoded data slice of the first set of encoded data slices requires rebuilding:
- generating a second encoded data slice that is distinct from the first set of encoded data slices;
- and
- storing the second encoded data slice via the set of storage units.
A computing device of a storage network, the computing device comprises:
- memory;
- an interface;
- and
- at least one processing module operably coupled to the memory and the interface, wherein the at least one processing module is operable to:
- store a first set of encoded data slices via a set of storage units, wherein the first set of encoded data slices includes at least a decode threshold number of encoded data slices;
- and
- based on determining a first encoded data slice of the first set of encoded data slices requires rebuilding:
- generate a second encoded data slice that is distinct from the first set of encoded data slices;
- and
- store the second encoded data slice via the set of storage units.
