Devices, systems, and methods for use with electric battery cells undergoing maturation

A method for managing maturation of one or more electric battery cells, the method comprising:

• while an electric battery cell of the one or more electric battery cells is undergoing maturation in a controlled environment, after being charged and electrically coupled to a cell monitoring device, CMD, repeatedly:
• obtaining, by the CMD using a voltage sensor, voltage measurements of the electric battery cell at a sampling rate,
• calculating, by the CMD, a rate of change for voltage based on the voltage measurements relative to the sampling rate, and evaluating the obtained voltage measurements and the calculated rate of change using a model, defined for the electric battery cell according to a manufacturing specification of the electric battery cell, to determine whether the electric battery cell deviated from the manufacturing specification or reached a predetermined stage of maturation for removing the electric battery cell from the controlled environment, the model comprising one or more voltage-dependent functions, the one or more functions comprising a function for defining a state of maturation of the electric battery cell in which a probability of the electric battery cell exhibiting a manufacturing fault while continuing to undergo maturation is below a predetermined level, the function used determine that the electric cell reached the predetermined stage of maturation;
• and
• generating, upon determining that the electric battery cell deviated from the manufacturing specification or reached the predetermined stage of maturation, a corresponding alert.

A cell monitoring device, CMD, for use with an electric battery cell while the electric battery cell is electrically coupled to the CMD and undergoing maturation in a controlled environment, after being charged, the CMD comprising:

• circuitry configured to execute functions for causing the CMD to:
• repeatedly:
• obtain, using a voltage sensor, voltage measurements of the electric battery cell, at a sampling rate, calculate a rate of change for voltage based on the voltage measurements relative to the sampling rate,
• compare the voltage measurements to a voltage function defined for the electric battery cell according to a manufacturing specification of the electric battery cell, compare the rate of change to a rate function defined for the electric battery cell according to the manufacturing specification, and
• determine, based on results of comparing the voltage measurements to the voltage function and the rate of change to the rate function, whether the electric battery cell reached a predetermined stage of maturation for removing the electric battery cell from the controlled environment, the predetermined stage of maturation defined by the rate function corresponding to a probability of the electric battery cell exhibiting a manufacturing fault while continuing to undergo maturation being below a predetermined level;
• and
• to generate, upon determining that the electric battery cell reached the predetermined stage of maturation, a corresponding alert.
